I was okay, but you have to watch what you are doing and be mindful of other fishermen. While there another fisherman wasn't looking while casting and hooked me in my finger. You have to be careful however because it's fish at your own risk. They'd also fix your rod/reel if everything got tangled up. They will also replace the hooks/line if you end up loosing them or have to cut them off if got snagged. A bucket of live Minos is the cheapest and you get a ton of them for $5.50 + $1 to rent the bucket they put them in. It cost $8 per person to go on the pier for 12 hours and you can come and go as you please. This pier is nice because you don't need a license and they provide everything you need to fish. Took my son here to fish while staying at the beach for vacation. Cost for pier entrance and rod rental, plus purchase of 2 lures, was around $30. Keep in mind, this is a fishing pier - there are restrooms, but don't expect them to be anything like a hotel bathroom. Parking they have free passes for other lots if you go at night (when the neighboring lot is closed, plus they charge $5). My only recommendations are to bring along your own folding chair, and perhaps a camera. Although there is no direct ocean front access from the hotel, there is a small beach area, and it's within a short walk to many attractions. Since I don't like fishing, and my other half does, we are considering staying at the neighboring hotel on our next visit. It's safe, and great for those who enjoy fishing. It did remind me of a scene from jaws, but we won't go into that. It was nice to watch the crabs trying to catch a meal, the needle nosed fish that were near, and just watching for fish in the water. And I honestly refused to touch any surface. I stood, watching my fiancé' fish for 4 hours. There are fish guts on every imaginable surface. The pier is well lit and sturdy, however the pier and the benches are in dire need of a good cleaning. There are drinks and snack available for purchase, and restrooms on location. You can rent poles, and there are lures available to purchase. Very good place to visit if you're into fishing or crabbing. Overall, I would pass on this pier and find another, possibly one on the ocean side or another part of the bay. When I spoke to the people fishing there, they mentioned they had been there the night before around 12am and didn't get much action as well. The best location of the pier is at the top if you can get there. Be careful when fishing on the side facing the motel as your line may get caught and stuck in branches and rocks. There wasn't much action going on, I believe only a few small flounders were caught during the 6 hour time frame while we were on the pier. As for the fishing, we caught a few small baby rock fish as well as a few horseshoe crabs and blue crabs. (Better off buying somewhere else if you can.) Keep in mind that regardless if everyone is fishing or not, you will have to pay full price if you are going to step foot on the pier. We purchased live minnows and blood worms from the store which were very expensive. We visited this pier with the family on a Sunday morning from 6am -12pm.
