But modern ships are powered by 110,000 horsepower engines and carry up to 20,000 containers. Today, trains through Khorgos haul more than 80 standard shipping containers and stretching a half-mile long. The ancient Silk Road faded in importance in the 1700s as more sophisticated ships began plying sea routes crammed with booty. “Security is the most important challenge facing Belt and Road,” says Zhu Feng, dean of the Institute of International Affairs at Nanjing University.Įconomic questions also plague many aspects of the initiative. “In the winter I would hunt wild turkey in the summer I picked berries. “Things were better before,” says a Uighur taxi driver in Khorgos, whose name TIME has withheld for his own security. In the especially restive south, Uighurs must secure official permission just to travel to neighboring villages. It’s China’s only province without 4G cell-phone coverage-deliberately held back to impede the download of jihadi propaganda, say local officials. At the city’s central bazaar, soldiers stand next to armored cars with bayonets affixed to assault rifles, as lambs are carried bleating and blinking past trays of mutton into butcher shops. To take a train at the Urumqi’s railway station requires negotiating four ranks of X-ray machines and metal detectors. Riots in the provincial capital Urumqi in 2009 left 197 dead, according to official figures. A total of 3,500 miles of the ancient Silk Road passes through this Alaska-sized territory, where the Taklamakan’s dunes to the south are separated from a lush northern prairie by a central spine of meringue-peaked mountains.īut Xinjiang is also China’s most volatile region, prone to periodic convulsions of strife from a predominantly ethnic Uighur Muslim population that feels marginalized and even persecuted under Beijing’s rule. Today, the Taklamakan fills part of China’s westernmost autonomous region of Xinjiang, which borders seven Central and South Asian nations and is thus the central hub for Belt and Road’s land portion. Lying just 100 miles from the Eurasian pole of inaccessibility-the farthest point on earth from any ocean-Khorgos remains one of the most remote spots on earth Khorgos sits on the edge of the Taklamakan Desert, nicknamed the “Sea of Death.” Herodotus wrote in his Histories of griffins guarding golden treasure at the desert’s craggy northern extreme, and of the North Wind gushing from a mountain cave here. Guo says 2,050 cargo trains passed by Khorgos last year, and the goal for 2017 is 5,000. It’s the world’s longest international freight line, broadly following the path of the old Silk Road caravans that lugged pistachios, ivory and dates to eager markets in the West. The scale of the challenge is evident in Khorgos, through which trains now chug on a 7,000-mile journey from 27 Chinese manufacturing hubs to 11 cities in Europe. Not since the hordes of Genghis Khan galloped west in the 13th century have such sweeping transnational ambitions emanated from China, though instead of ashes and sun-bleached bones, this time the invaders plan to leave harbors, pipelines and high-speed rail in its wake. A new $7.3 billion pipeline from Turkmenistan will bring China an extra 15 billion cubic meters of gas annually. There’s the $480 million Lamu deep-sea port in Kenya, which will eventually be connected via road, railway and pipeline to landlocked South Sudan and Ethiopia and right across Africa to Cameroon’s port of Douala. A total of 900 separate projects have been earmarked at a cost of $900 billion, according to the China Development Bank. A maritime “road” links coastal Chinese cities via a series of ports to Africa and the Mediterranean. The economic land “belt” takes cargo, in large part via Khorgos, through Eurasia. Formerly known as One Belt One Road, it’s a rekindling of the ancient Silk Road through a staggeringly ambitious plan to build a network of highways, railways and pipelines linking Asia via the Middle East to Europe and south through Africa. Khorgos is a linchpin in Chinese President Xi Jinping’s signature Belt and Road Initiative. “Today, the ground of Khorgos is mud,” says Guo Jianbin, deputy director of the Khorgos Economic Development Zone administration committee, accenting his words with a booted stamp.

The patch addresses an issue where even if the feed import is unsuccessful, it requires the API URL be slightly changed to get around some caching that’s happening behind the scenes. Pro tip: You’ll likely also want to include this Feeds patch: Note, because I’m using DDev-Local for my local environment, I needed to run: We can simply run composer require drupal/feeds_ex, and Composer will make sure all dependency modules and other libraries get included, such as Feeds module and the JsonPath library. We can use the Feeds Extensible Parsers module to parse the JSON. Feeds Extensible Parsers moduleīecause the Breaking Bad API returns to us a JSON response, we need a JSON parsing system in Drupal. This will be the module doing most of the work and processing to import the items from the JSON API into Drupal. Feeds moduleįirst of all, we need to install the Feeds module. I will not be covering how to do that, but will say for this example, I used the Drupal 8 Quickstart provided by DDev-Local for my local environment setup. This assumes you have a running Composer-based Drupal installation already. Authentication with Feeds is outside the scope of this post. Under normal circumstances and real projects, APIs will typically be locked down and only accessible with an authenticated user. This API is free and open to use for the public and is great for testing purposes. It appears the API just returns an array of JSON objects, which obviously are Breaking Bad characters and various attributes about the characters. The Breaking Bad API offers a few different endpoints, but I decided to use the Characters endpoint as the source that will be imported as Drupal Character nodes. The 3rd party API I chose to use for the purposes of this blog post is about one of my favorite TV shows that you’ve probably heard of, Breaking Bad. In this blog post, I wanted to document my journey of how I was able to get Feeds to import into Drupal 8 from a 3rd party API that provides JSON data. Most of the resources, however, are specific to XML and RSS feeds. Normally, there is no reason to uncheck this option. There are many resources online around using the Feeds module in Drupal 8 to import data from a 3rd party API. This option allows you to cache requests that are made by WordPress REST API calls. Regardless of how you set this option, all non-commenting visitors will still be served the cached version of the page until the comment is approved and the page is purged. The page will be generated from scratch, and the user will see their under-moderation comment. If you turn the option OFF, the user will not be served from cache. It is ON by default, meaning the user will see the previously cached version of the page (and their comment will not appear). It determines how the user leaving the comment will see the page, after they've submitted their comment. The Cache Commenters option is useful in that second scenario. If moderation is enabled, then the comment is not published immediately, the page is not purged, and users will continue to be served the cached version of the page, without the moderated comment. Everyone (the commenter, and all future visitors to the page) will see the newly-published comment when the page reloads. When a comment is submitted on a post, if moderation is not enabled, the comment is published immediately, and the page is purged from cache. Pages will be stored in private cache by IP and session ID. This setting allows content to be cached for logged-in users. In " The Ultimate Enemy", Tucker attempts to hack into one of Clockwork's medallions with his PDA, to no avail. In " Pirate Radio", Tucker revealed to Danny that he used his PDA to kick up back power on his Dad's Ghost Shield Generator and set up in reverse trapping Youngblood and his Assistant. When Danny asked to borrow his PDA for a new image, he tells him to get one of his own. Dash and Kwan told Tucker that they're going to stop making fun of him and go back to teasing Danny from now on making him glad. At first Tucker decided to change his image and he gave his PDA to Sam because everybody kept calling him a techo-geek since he carries so many technology around and he stomps off but luckily Tucker decided he doesn't like changing his image anymore. In " 13", Sam tells Tucker to search about Shadow on his PDA when Kawn grabs it and fools around with it then Dash says he does that a little too well making him scream saying techo-geek is contagious. Danny notice his Ghost Sense out of his mouth thinking that Spectra is the ghost. In " My Brother's Keeper" Tucker shows Danny digital pics of him in his baby suit which he doesn't find it funny, then Danny shows the digital pics although Tucker was planning on deleting them but Danny was glad he didn't. In " Attack of the Killer Garage Sale", Tucker uses his PDA, coupled with the latest version of Portals XL, to hack into Technus's battlesuit and shut it down. This causes Tucker to complain that he had four more payments on that PDA. Yet just when Tucker is about to shut down his armor, Skulker shoots the PDA out of Tucker's hand, pinning it to a tree with an arrow. After they ambush him, Tucker uses his PDA to send commands to Skulker's suit to make it do random activities so he can't fight Danny. The trio uses Tucker's second PDA to track where Skulker is going to appear based on the schedule, and they set a trap for him. In " One of a Kind", Skulker takes one of Tucker's PDAs and integrates it into his armor, making him more efficient at the cost of being bound to Danny's schedule. Store-bought betta fish have been bred to display a wide variety of colors. The betta fish sold in pet stores are a product of selective breeding-the process of breeding animals to develop more desirable characteristics and traits, such as a particular color or size. Wild betta fish typically have short fins and sport a dull grey coloring. However, these ray-finned fish look nothing like their wild counterparts. Store-bought betta splendens - also known as Siamese fighting fish - are one of the more popular species of betta fish because of their vibrant coloring. They have a wide-ranging diet that consists of small crustaceans, insects - including mosquito larvae, worms, and even smaller fish. The fish live in shallow water, including ponds, flood plains, slow-moving streams, and marshes. There are more than 70 different species of betta fish in the wild. They are relatively small, ranging anywhere from six to eight centimeters long. They are members of the Osphronemidae family and are native to Southeast Asia. What Is A Betta Fish?īetta fish are small, freshwater fish. There are more than 70 different species of betta fish. And although their appearance may make them popular for display, they are actually one of the most exploited fish in the aquarium trade. Pet stores often market the vibrant swimmers as being easy to care for because they’re small - so they take up minimal space - and are inexpensive to care for.īut proper betta care is a bit more specialized than some pet stores lead on. Some people do two 50% water changes per week while others do one 50% and one 100%.Colorful, iridescent betta fish are popular starter pets. Do at least one 50% water change every other day and once your baby is grown you should do two water changes per week for a 2.5 gallon tank. Also babies need their tank cleaned more often because they produce a growth-stunting hormone which stays in the water. Keep the temperature a little warmer than an adult betta likes it, I kept mine between 82-86F. Eventually you should feed frozen foods only as a treat twice per week and have pellets be the betta's staple diet when it gets a bit bigger. No need for a filter in a 2.5 gallon because you cannot hold a stable cycle and it will only cause more water current which bettas hate! Babies need to be fed more often, so feed yours about 3-4 times per day and feed frozen foods once per day. The only other thing I would suggest for the tank is a thermometer and a cave-like structure for the baby to hide in. Your setup looks great and you picked out what looks to be a healthy baby betta. Hi Natalia, this is Viva from the bettafish forums. OH and my own real bottle of water conditioner since I'm returning the crap betta tank kit I bought in the first place. I came home with a 2.5 gallon tank, a new heater, some lovely decorative rocks, two LIVE plants, frozen brine shrimp, baby tropical fish food, and some dried blood worms. So I picked up my boyfriend from work, broke the news that I bought a damned fish, and went to town to get supplies. Also one thing Petco doesn't tell people, is that bettas should really have a HEATED tank. As soon as I got all of this home and did some research I realized this tiny little container was not going to cut it. I also bought a little beta tank, that said it was the "perfect into to fish keeping" and came with "BONUS: Betta Food, and Water Conditioner". I realized maybe Petco shouldn't be selling these poor little creatures, so I needed to do something, and I did something very stupid. When I finally did I immediately was disappointed to find one was dead, and another on it's way out. I had never seen baby bettas for sale before so I went on a quest to find them. So I was walking around Petco, texting my lovely boyfriend about wanting to get pet finches when I saw a display about bettas with prices. I just started a new job at a school, and we have finches in the classroom, and I love watching them. Today I was feeling like I needed a little pick me up so I headed over after work. The animals cheer me up, and I like to shop for presents for my lovely cat Luna. Sometimes when I'm having a bad day I go to Petco. |
